Gay Bars Las Vegas: History
Gay Bars Las Vegas history started in 1954 with Club Black Magic and the city has been thriving ever since. Club Black Magic eventually became Le Cafe by Tropicana Hotel and it was the most popular place to hear some smooth and sweet jazz music from 1950 to 1960. In 1969, Club de Paris and Le Bistro opened their doors to the public and it became a favourite hotspot for the Gay Bars Las Vegas community. Betty Gable often hosted parties there. By late 1969, both Club de Paris and Le Bistro were failing. A former cocktail waitress named Marge took the reigns and merged the cafe and club with the casino industry and renamed the place Le Cafe. It became the hottest place to meet celebrities. Liberace, Joan Rivers, Shirley Maclaine, Paul Lynde, Bobbie Gentry, Debbie Reynolds, Sammy Davis, Jr. and even Milton Berle were seen there enjoying the nightlife. The fun, however, came to an end when the place burned down in 1983. Some say the competition did it; others believe Marge did it for the insurance money. She spent the next five years running gay bars all over Las Vegas including Gipsy. When she lost Gipsy in 1983, she decided it was time that Le Cafe reopened under a different name. Disco Le Cafe Bar became the place to be for a bumping nightlife featuring punk performers and drag queens. Marge was looking for a more high-end clientele, which just did not exist in Las Vegas at that time and with cops tailing gay men going to the Disco Le Cafe for DUIs, the place began to see less and less people. Marge eventually killed it in 1984. Since these times, the Gay Bars Las Vegas scene has become a thriving gay community and Las Vegas gay bars has been seeing more and more light with each passing year. Las Vegas may be the city of sin, but the gay community here is large and in charge and there is nothing morally wrong about that.
